Tournaments are a great way to push yourself phycially and mentally, as well as meet new people. Badminton Nova Scotia offers three types of tournaments: Club Series, Provincial Series and Atlantic Series. All ages and all skill levels are welcome at all tournaments.

Club Series tournaments are held in multiple locations around the province. These tournaments are mixed and doubles events only.

The provincial team is the center of Badminton Nova Scotia’s high performance plan. It seeks to develop athletes who will become Nova Scotia’s representatives on the National and International Stages. It is our hope that every high perfomance badminton athlete in Nova Scotia will join the provincial team.

Some of the top coaches in the province are associated with the provincial team. The seek to better all members of the team and to provide diverse coaching methods for all athletes.

Eligible to Represent NS

Badminton Canada requires that all athletes at National Championships and Canada Games be sanctioned by their Provincial Sport Organization. Only athletes who are members in good standing of the provincial team are eligible for sanctioning.


We are committed to supporting our athletes in achieving their goals. Provincial team athletes who achieve excpetional levels of success maybe eligible for financial assistance for training or competitions.

How to Join the Team?

Joining the team requires athletes to compete in the provincial series tournaments. Athletes may be identified to join the team by a provincial team coach or can aproach any coach of the team if they wish to considared for the team.

Elliott Beals is a masterful coach and player. He is a Certified Competition Development Coach and is the reigning national champion in serveral masters level events. We are proud to have Elliott Beals on our team.

Robert Procter

Provincial Team Head Coach

Robert Proctor is dedicated coach and volunteer. He has successfully grown the Nova Scotia provinical team program since 2013. Rob has a keen eye for technique and instills strong technical skills upon all his athletes.

Patrick Thompson

Associate Coach

Patrick Thompson is a graceful player and has a wealth of knowledge about badminton. He is also persuing certification as a competition development NCCP certified coach.

Introduction to Badminton

Introduction to badminton is a program at the Canada Games Centre which runs for 10 weeks in the spring and winter. For registration details please contact Canada Games Centre.

Team Selection

Badminton Nova Scotia’s high performance committee in cooperation with Canada Sport Center Atlantic have developed minimum selection criteria to be considared for athlete support (including Canada Games) by Badminton Nova Scotia.

The criteria are as follows: 1. Be a Member of the Nova Scotia Provincial Team 2. Meet the Nova Scotia Provincial team minimum fitness requirement 3. Compete in all Atlantic Series Tournaments* *subject to change given out of province study or medical exemptions See our rules and regulations for full details.
