Congratulations Ritu Shah!!

Badminton Nova Scotia would like to congratulate Ritu Shah who competed at the 2019 Yonex Atlantic Junior Elite in Moncton NB.

Ritu won gold in U17 Girls Singles and was in the semi-finals in U19 Girls Doubles with Carla McCallum. This was Ritu’s first Junior Elite Series Tournament and entered as an unseeded player. In her first round Ritu defeated Simona Sileris (ON) 21-6, 21-17, in the round of sixteen she defeated Carolyn Lee (ON) 21-15, 21-14.  This win set up a quarterfinal match against the tournaments 3/4 seed Christina Lin (ON) where Ritu prevailed 21-15, 21-15.  Next up was the tournaments second seed Sophia Nong (ON) who Ritu defeated 21-18, 21-18.  In the finals, Ritu battled her way past the tournaments 3/4 seed in three sets 21-7, 16-21, 21-12 to capture the gold medal. In doubles, Ritu paired with McCallum (PEI) to reach the semi finals.  In their quarterfinal match they played the duo of Chandel/Wong (ON) who they defeated 21-13, 21-16.  In the semi finals they lost to the eventual tournament winners and seconds seeds Rachel Chan and Jeslyn Chow (ON) 16-21, 8-21.
