December 2, 2017 Announcements 0

It is with a heavy heart that the Badminton Nova Scotia Executive notify the badminton community of the passing of Rick Murphy from Yarmouth.

He was an incredible athlete and ambassador of the sport of badminton.

He was one of the most decorated badminton players in NS history winning 20 provincial titles, 6 Atlantic titles (in singles, doubles and mixed) and 4 Canadian Masters Singles titles, with his last tournament winning the 50+ singles in Halifax in 2016.

Shortly after that he was honored with the Badminton Nova Scotia Lifetime Achievement Award for his achievements and contributions to the sport of badminton.

He was a true gentleman who treated all with respect and dignity on and off the badminton court.

We cherish the time we had with Rick.

Our thoughts go out to his family during this difficult time.

His service announcement can be found here

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at the Beacon United Church,
